Hi, my name is Niamh Redmond. (Niamh is an Irish name and is pronounced Neeve.) I write about the things that I’m interested in on this blog and generally use the site as a R&D lab for posting content to my personal space on the internet.
I’m from Dublin, Ireland and live in Vancouver, Canada.
I have worked in web, digital media and online communications roles since 2002 with clients including a design, events and post-production company, two universities, a media agency, a stockbrokers, an international energy company and a global consultancy firm. View my Resume/ connect on LinkedIn.
My interests are varied and include writing, design, user experience, interaction design, web/ interactive design, play and gaming, art and technology, usability, communication and media studies, interactive installations, film and film-making, photography, music, sound design, motion graphics, animation, web/ mobile apps, social media, art, architecture, guitar, dj-ing, fashion, tennis, extreme sports, travel and the outdoors.
I graduated with an undergraduate degree in BSc. Multimedia from the School of Communications at Dublin City University and with a Master of Arts degree in Digital Media Technologies from the School of Media at the Dublin Institute of Technology in Ireland. Since then, I have qualified as a PRINCE2 Project Management Practitioner and gained a post-graduate Diploma in Digital Marketing and Advertising with PR and E-Commerce from the Fitzwilliam Institute.
I value creativity, individuality, honesty, sincerity and integrity. I remember reading that there is no alternative to good design, or in other words that the opposite of good design is not no design, it’s bad design. When I’m not thinking, planning, designing, creating, developing, doing or writing about the above, I can be found playing tennis, walking my dogs on the beach, watching movies, taking photographs, listening to music of many varieties, playing Wii, driving motorbikes, learning how to drive a car, learning how to snowboard, playing guitar, traveling, enjoying the outdoors, reading and spending time with my friends and loved ones. At the moment, my favorite font is Nevis, my favorite color is International Klein Blue, my favorite principle of design is balance and my favorite words are serendipity and sticktoitiveness. I prefer coca-cola to pepsi, quality to quantity, beaches to lakeshores, dogs to cats, and Apple to you know who.
