Niamh

Hi, my name is Niamh Redmond. (Niamh is an Irish name and is pronounced Neeve.) I’m from Dublin, Ireland and live in Vancouver, Canada.

I work at the University of British of Columbia managing web marketing, online strategy and user experience for the Sauder School of Business. I have worked in web and multimedia design, systems and business analysis, project management, IA/ user experience and online communications/ web marketing roles since 2002 with clients in numerous industries. View my Resume on LinkedIn.

I graduated with a BSc. degree in Multimedia from the School of Communications at Dublin City University (2004) and with a M.A. degree in Digital Media Technologies from the School of Media at the Dublin Institute of Technology in Ireland (2006). Since then, I have qualified as a PRINCE2 Project Management Practitioner (2007) and gained a post-graduate Diploma in Digital Marketing and Advertising with PR and E-Commerce from the Fitzwilliam Institute (2008).

Outside the web, I’m interested in other digital media, namely video, imaging, audio and mobile. I specialized in Audio Design during my undergraduate degree and enjoy playing guitar and mixing digital audio when I have the time. I specialized in Video Production during my Master’s degree and previously worked as a Video Editor and Motion Graphics Designer. I am a keen amateur photographer and would love to work on more video and imaging projects (again, if I could find the time).

In 2009, I completed a beginner’s training course in iPhone Application Development at the App School and I’m interested in working with mobile developers that would like to partner with a consultant who can bring value to a project in the areas of planning, strategy, user experience, interaction design and app promotion/ marketing.

In 2010, I completed two modules – Production Management for Producers and Entertainment Distribution, which are part of the award-winning Certificate in Entertainment Business Administration at the University of British of Columbia. I recently finished studying a course in 3D Stereoscopic Imaging and Film-making at the Stereoscopic 3D Centre of Excellence at the Emily Carr University of Art & Design in Vancouver, BC.

My interests are varied and include:

  • - writing
  • - digital strategy
  • - storytelling for online/ interactive/ video
  • - design research
  • - user experience and interaction design
  • - communications, media and marketing
  • - social media
  • - design, and in particular, web,  interactive and mobile design
  • - film, film theory and film-making
  • - photography
  • - documentary media
  • - play and gaming
  • - art and technology/ interactive installations
  • - music and sound design, I play guitar also

I value creativity, individuality, honesty, sincerity and integrity. I remember reading that there is no alternative to good design, or in other words that the opposite of good design is not no design, it’s bad design. When I’m not thinking, planning, creating, consulting or writing about the above, I can be found playing tennis, cycling, watching movies, taking photographs, listening to music of many varieties, playing guitar, traveling, enjoying the outdoors, reading and spending time with my friends and loved ones.

At the moment, my favorite font is Nevis, my favorite color is International Klein Blue, my favorite principle of design is balance and my favorite words are serendipity and sticktoitiveness. I prefer coca-cola to pepsi, quality to quantity, beaches to lakeshores, dogs to cats, and Apple to you know who.
