RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta - An Taobh Tuathail, every weeknight 11pm - 1am
I wouldn’t usually be a huge radio listener, except for when I’m in a car or without an i-Pod, television, computer, Internet connection… you get the idea. However, I have been increasingly listening to “An Taobh Tuathail” (irish for “The Other Side”), which broadcasts “underground music from around the globe” every week night from 11pm to 1am on RnaG (RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltacht; 93.5 FM).
While I certainly could improve my level of Irish listening to RnaG, I’m more interested in tuning into this show for the moment. The show has been broadcasting since 1999 and the aim of the show is simple - “to play you exciting new music that you may not have the opportunity to hear elsewhere.” Interestingly, the radio station had a policy of not playing English language lyrics, which was only relaxed in May 2005. One of the main reasons that I like the music that is played on this show is for the lack of vocals, however.
