This month’s cool tune is “Stick to Your Line” by R.S.A.G. 

Known as one of the most innovative Irish musicians around, Jeremy Hickey performs solo with a ‘virtual band’ projected onto a screen. I first saw him perform on Irish television last year. What I noticed first was the screen projections, then the one-man drummer band and then the music, which I like very much.

My choice of a cool tune for the last Friday of each month.

This month’s cool tune is “Hallelujah” – the Jeff Buckley version. This song saw a bit of a revival recently, partly due to Alexandra Burke’s X-Factor version/ Christmas number one. I think Jeff Buckley’s version of the original Leonard Cohen song will see revivals similar to this for years to come… it’s simply a timeless classic. Perhaps one of the most beautiful songs I think that I’ve ever heard. Certainly one of my top ten all-time favourites.

Another choice of a cool tune (can’t help it, there’s so many good music out there right now and I also blame the weather in Dublin today – so cold all there is to do is hibernate inside).

Today’s second cool tune is “Love Lockdown” by Kanye West.

I read an article about Kanye West in The Observer Magazine today. He had some interesting things to say and is obviously coming to the end of what was a tough year having lost his mother and with the break-up of his engagement. Today’s cool tune is “If I Were A Boy” by Beyoncé.

I like the song/ lyrics and the middle of the video is clever, when the two characters swap roles – sort of a spin on role reversal. (more…)
